205 W Mission Ave, Ste S, Escondido, CA
Prism Jiu Jitsu in Escondido is known for its lively, hard-working classes led by experienced coaches who care about every student’s progress. The academy is headed by Nick Angeloni, a first degree black belt with 17 years of jiu jitsu experience and 25 years in martial arts overall. Nick brings a strong competitive background, including a 5-1 pro MMA record, a King of the Cage title, and podium finishes at IBJJF No-Gi Worlds, Europeans, and Nationals. He’s also coached the Prism team to podium placements at JJWL within their first two years, and his hands-on approach shapes both the adult and kids’ programs. Training at Prism covers both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with a clear structure for beginners, advanced students, and those in between. Adults can join fundamentals, all-levels, and advanced no-gi classes, as well as a gi class open to everyone. There’s dedicated wrestling instruction to round out grappling skills, plus a women-only gi class. Open mats are held regularly for anyone looking to get extra rounds in or work on their own pace. The kids’ program is split into age groups (4–8 and 9–13) and includes a competition class for those who want to test themselves further. Fernando Damian, a homegrown blue belt and active competitor, assists with the younger classes—bringing firsthand experience and understanding of what helps new students succeed. The academy’s schedule and coaching style make it accessible for families as well as serious competitors, with parking and wheelchair access at the Escondido location.
