Pirata Jiu Jitsu

Pirata Jiu Jitsu is led by Black Belt Devin Pirata, who has been teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Kansas City Metro area since 2006. The academy returned to its original location in Independence, Missouri, where Devin first started sharing his knowledge of the art. His experience shapes the school’s focus on practical self-defense, physical conditioning, and preparing students for competition. Classes at Pirata Jiu Jitsu cover all levels, beginning with fundamentals for adults and progressing to all-level sessions. The gym offers both gi and no-gi training, including dedicated no-gi submission grappling classes. For younger students, there are separate gi classes divided into age groups 5-9 and 10-14, along with combined kids’ classes. Competition training is available by invitation, providing advanced students with focused preparation. The facility is wheelchair accessible and encourages drop-in attendance for most classes and open mat sessions. This setup supports consistent training and allows people to come in as their schedules permit. Pirata Jiu Jitsu maintains a straightforward approach centered on developing skill through regular, disciplined practice under Devin’s guidance.
