Phenom Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Phenom Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Irvine builds its curriculum around “technique before force,” with every class designed to meet students at their own pace—whether they are brand new or have years on the mat. The academy runs a clear structure for both kids and adults: children are grouped by age (4–5, 6–7, and 8–14) to ensure instruction matches their stage of development, while adults train in both gi and no-gi formats with an emphasis on practical self-defense, mobility, and composure. Multiple coaches are on the mat for youth classes, and beginners are present in every session, so nobody is left behind or thrown in over their head. Phenom was founded in 2014 by Professor Martin Morachimo, a black belt with over two decades of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Martin began his journey under Roger Machado and later trained with Romulo Barral, earning a Pan American title as a brown belt in 2011. Before opening his own school, he served as head instructor at Gracie Barra Santa Ana and has taught full time since 2009. His coaching philosophy is rooted in patience and respect, aiming to help every student—from young children to competitive athletes—build confidence, discipline, and resilience both on and off the mats. The Irvine facility is equipped with shock-absorbing mats, locker rooms, showers, and year-round air conditioning, providing a comfortable space for regular training. Open mat sessions are available, and the academy welcomes drop-ins. Phenom also offers Muay Thai under a dedicated striking coach, rounding out its martial arts programs for those interested in cross-training. With its structured approach and experienced staff, Phenom provides a focused environment for anyone looking to grow in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
