Park City Jiu Jitsu

Park City Jiu Jitsu in Lehi is led by Mike Diaz, a 5th-degree black belt under Pedro Sauer, whose lineage traces back to Helio Gracie. Mike began training in 1997 and earned his black belt in 2006. With nearly three decades on the mats and experience as a former U.S. Marine, he founded the gym in 2010 as the first BJJ academy in the Park City area. Mike’s teaching blends traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with functional movement principles learned from Master Alvaro Romano, aiming to help students train efficiently and sustain their practice over time. The academy offers structured classes for adults and kids, focusing on practical self-defense that combines standing and ground techniques centered on leverage and control. Students progress through fundamentals to more advanced concepts, with instructors emphasizing discipline, respect, and character development alongside technical skill. The staff includes several black belts and colored belts who support a variety of training needs, including private lessons and dedicated kids’ classes. Open mat sessions are available for all belt levels, providing additional time for drilling and sparring in a wheelchair-accessible facility. Park City Jiu Jitsu maintains a steady schedule that accommodates different skill levels and encourages consistent training. The school’s atmosphere reflects Mike Diaz’s philosophy of Jiu-Jitsu as a lifelong journey, where growth comes from challenge and steady effort rather than flash or ego.
