Northwest Kansas Jiu Jitsu- Goodland

Northwest Kansas Jiu Jitsu- Goodland began in June 2021 as Goodland Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, marking the first formal BJJ presence in Northwest Kansas. The academy quickly expanded, moving to a dedicated location in 2022 and later rebranding in 2024 to Northwest Kansas Jiu Jitsu as it opened additional branches in Colby and Hays. The school is guided by head coach Anthony Dovidio, a brown belt influenced by Carlson Gracie Jr. through Professor Chad Robichaux, and supported by Professor Scott Miller, a third-degree black belt with a background in wrestling and MMA coaching. Together, they emphasize a self-defense oriented style that remains competitive and sport-friendly. The curriculum is structured to serve a broad range of students, from youth classes teaching discipline and confidence to adult classes covering fundamentals through advanced techniques in both gi and no-gi formats. Women’s self-defense classes and competition training are integral parts of the program, reflecting the academy’s focus on practical skills and tournament preparation. The school also integrates Muay Thai striking for both youth and adults, offering a complementary stand-up discipline alongside grappling. Training sessions occur in a wheelchair-accessible facility designed to accommodate a variety of needs. The Colby location, for example, offers beginner adult gi classes, kids’ programs for ages 4 to 14, live rolling sessions, and adult Muay Thai classes, all led by Coach Anthony Dovidio. Guest instructors and student coaches regularly contribute, enhancing the depth of instruction and providing seminar opportunities. This layered approach supports steady progression and a culture of facing challenges both on and off the mats.
