Movement Academy BJJ & Grappling in Henderson is led by Michael Alvarez, a black belt under Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles Maciel and Hector Vasquez with nearly two decades of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and other martial arts. Alvarez has an extensive competitive history, including multiple IBJJF Pan American and World Championship titles, reflecting his deep connection to the Cobrinha lineage. He founded this academy to pass on the technical knowledge and discipline of Jiu-Jitsu, emphasizing personal growth alongside athletic development. Classes at Movement Academy are structured around both gi and no-gi training for adults and children, with separate sessions for Lil Kids and older kids to address different learning stages. The curriculum balances fundamentals and advanced techniques, reflecting Alvarez’s commitment to hands-on instruction tailored to individual progress. Open mat sessions are regularly scheduled, allowing practitioners to drill and spar beyond formal classes. The academy operates Monday through Saturday with evening classes during the week and afternoon sessions on weekends.
