Mount Dora BJJ Academy has served Lake County since 2013 with a clear, faith-based mission: to help families grow stronger together through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Founded by Professor David Iturrino, a 3rd-degree BJJ black belt under Marcos De Oliveira and a 2nd-degree judo black belt under Hector Lombard, and Coach Annie Iturrino, a 2nd-degree BJJ black belt, the academy is built on values of faith, discipline, and integrity. The Iturrinos believe that the lessons learned on the mat—perseverance, humility, and resilience—carry over into everyday life, shaping not just athletes but confident, purpose-driven people. Training at Mount Dora BJJ centers on strong fundamentals and practical self-defense, with classes designed for all ages and backgrounds. Professor David leads with a technical approach rooted in his extensive martial arts background, while Coach Annie focuses on youth and women’s programs, helping students build confidence and character from an early age. The academy’s class structure includes gi-based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, early-morning sessions for “early risers,” and open mat times that welcome visitors. The gym’s nearly 9,000-square-foot facility provides ample space for families, and the schedule includes afterschool programs, youth camps, and fitness classes in addition to regular BJJ training. Mount Dora BJJ’s commitment to community is evident in its long-standing presence and outreach, including the Grappling for Life non-profit, which uses martial arts to support youth and families. The academy is an IBJJF-registered school, and students benefit from instructors with deep experience and a genuine investment in their growth on and off the mats.
