At Mike Del Angel BJJ in Lutz, the class structure is built around a clear progression for adults, starting with basics and moving through all-levels training. The academy offers foundational instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through its Adults Basics class, while the Baby Gorilla and Black Backs programs give members a chance to deepen their skills and explore different aspects of the art in a structured setting. All programs are gi-focused, and drop-ins are welcomed. Head instructor Mike Del Angel brings a lifetime of martial arts experience and a strong competitive background to the mats. Born in Veracruz, Mexico and raised in the United States, Mike began boxing as a child, later serving as a U.S. Marine, Drill Instructor, and Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) Instructor. He has trained over 30,000 service members in hand-to-hand combat and continues to compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earning titles at the IBJJF World and Pan American Championships. Mike holds a brown belt under Fabio Novaes, a 5th-degree black belt with deep roots in the Carlson Gracie lineage. The academy’s instruction is shaped by this lineage, tracing from Mike’s teacher Fabio Novaes—himself a world and Pan American champion—through Marcelo Saporito and ultimately Carlson Gracie. This tradition emphasizes pressure, technical development, and a practical approach to self-defense and sport jiu-jitsu. Located on Land O' Lakes Blvd, the facility is wheelchair accessible and welcomes practitioners looking for authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Lutz area.
