635 Broadway, Kingston, NY
Midtown Jiu Jitsu in Kingston, NY is led by Head Coach Malachy Silva, a black belt with roots in Ulster County and a teaching lineage under Shawn Williams and Dane Molina of Renzo Gracie LA. Malachy brings years of experience both as a competitor and as a coach, having managed children’s and adult programs in Los Angeles before returning home to establish his own academy. His approach blends traditional and modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, emphasizing technical fundamentals, longevity, and steady progress for every student. The academy offers structured classes for adults, teens, and children, with programs designed for different age groups and skill levels. Kids’ classes are split into three groups (ages 4–6, 7–10, and 11–17), each focusing on age-appropriate skill building, discipline, and confidence. Teens can also participate in dedicated wrestling classes, and there’s a summer competition camp that combines both Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling for young athletes. Adults have access to gi and no-gi Jiu-Jitsu, a weekly competition class, and twice-weekly wrestling sessions, as well as occasional wrestling workshops led by guest instructors. Women’s Jiu-Jitsu is a featured part of the schedule, led by co-founder and brown belt Stephanie Silva, whose competition success and teaching philosophy center on discipline and perseverance. Coach Kayla Natal, a purple belt, and Coach Rochelle Balan also contribute to the teaching team, each bringing their own experience and focus on clear instruction and strong fundamentals. Midtown Jiu Jitsu welcomes new students and visitors, with a focus on creating a safe, clean, and disciplined environment where practical skills and personal growth go hand in hand. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and drop-ins are welcome at open mat sessions.
