Mercy Jiu Jitsu

Mercy Jiu Jitsu is led by Professor Ryan Wise, a second-degree black belt who has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2006. Ryan earned his black belt under Rob Ables at Marcelo Garcia Dallas and has been active in the local BJJ scene as both an instructor and a tournament referee. The academy was founded by Blair Lane and Juan Rodriguez, both purple and brown belts with years of combined competition experience and a deep connection to the Alvarado area. Their goal is to create a training environment that develops not only technique but also mindset, physicality, and character. Classes at Mercy Jiu Jitsu are organized to serve a variety of practitioners. Kids from 5 to 13 years old train in separate beginner and advanced groups, focusing on self-defense, discipline, and respect alongside technical growth. Adults have access to multiple classes throughout the week, including gi and no-gi training, with a special emphasis on competition preparation. The academy fields a competition team that regularly attends tournaments such as AGF, JJWL, NAGA, and IBJJF, supported by coaching and private lessons for those pursuing competitive goals. Open mat sessions are available for all adult students, providing additional time for live rolling and positional drilling beyond scheduled classes. The facility is wheelchair accessible and welcomes drop-in students, making it convenient for visitors or grapplers traveling from nearby communities like Mansfield and Midlothian. Mercy Jiu Jitsu’s approach is rooted in practical self-defense and fitness, aiming to help students improve their confidence and overall well-being through consistent, focused training.
