MBJJ - Minc Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is led by Professor Pedro Minc, a black belt whose roots in martial arts trace back to Rio de Janeiro where he began training judo at age 11 under his father’s guidance. He transitioned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu six years later and honed his skills with Nova União, training under André “Dedé” Pederneiras alongside some of the sport’s elite competitors. Pedro’s competitive career includes multiple titles such as eight IBJJF American National Championships, the IBJJF Brazilian National Championship, and three CBJJO World Championships. After moving to the United States in 2017 and coaching in New York City, he opened MBJJ Academy in Redwood City in 2021, establishing a dedicated facility by 2025 designed to support his vision of focused, disciplined training. At MBJJ, the curriculum spans all ages and levels, with a structured progression from beginner fundamentals to advanced competition training. The academy maintains a traditional gi-based program while integrating no-gi classes for adults and youth, reflecting the full spectrum of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practice. Children’s classes are organized by age groups, starting as young as three years old with the “Mini Samurais” and advancing through “Little Samurais” and “Warriors” divisions, offering gi, no-gi, and MMA/self-defense components. Women’s only no-gi classes and wrestling fundamentals are also part of the schedule, supporting a diverse training experience. The gym operates out of a modern facility with private parking and wheelchair accessibility, located near central Redwood City. Open mat sessions for both gi and no-gi provide students with additional training opportunities outside regular classes. Pedro also leads community outreach through after-school self-defense programs for children in nearby Menlo Park and Atherton. His approach emphasizes technical fundamentals, mental discipline, and personal growth, continuing the legacy of Nova União’s competitive and teaching philosophies.
