Mattix Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy

Mattix Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy has been part of the Davie, Florida scene since 2015, founded by head instructor Ricky Semiglia. Ricky is a lifelong practitioner who has spent much of his career working to make the principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu clear and accessible for people of all ages. The academy was started with a focus on building strong fundamentals and confidence, and that philosophy still guides every class. All instructors at Mattix have come up through the same system, ensuring consistency in how techniques and core concepts are taught. Classes at Mattix put a strong emphasis on the basics—especially connection, timing, and weight distribution. These ideas form the backbone of the curriculum, whether students are learning in a fundamentals class, an advanced session, or during live sparring. Adult programs are offered in both gi and no-gi formats, with separate classes for drilling, positional work, and open mat. The academy also recognizes the importance of good training partners and encourages everyone on the mat to understand both sides of every technique. For younger students, Mattix runs two main youth programs: Mini Mattix for children ages 4 to 9, focusing on movement, focus, and coordination, and Mega Mattix for older kids, where discipline and real Jiu-Jitsu skills are developed in a supportive setting. The schedule includes morning and evening options, as well as open mat sessions and concept-focused classes in both gi and no-gi. The facility is wheelchair accessible, with daily mat cleaning and an approach to safety that runs through every aspect of training.
