Martinez BJJ Fitness Center in Philadelphia is led by William Martinez Jr., a third-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Master Carlos Machado. Will earned his black belt in 2012 after years of training with some of the region’s most accomplished fighters and coaches, including time at Philadelphia Fight Factory and alongside names like Eddie Alvarez, Tara LaRosa, and Ryan Hall. With a professional MMA record of 13-3-1—including five Bellator wins—and experience coaching athletes in the UFC, CFFC, and other major organizations, Will brings a deep competitive background to every class at the academy. Since opening Martinez Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2011, Will has built a program that covers both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, with a strong emphasis on practical grappling and real-world application. Classes are structured to serve everyone from first-day beginners to active competitors, with programs in both gi and no-gi formats. The academy is especially known for its large kids and teens program, which has become one of the cornerstones of the school. Day-to-day training at Martinez BJJ includes regular BJJ classes, open mats, and opportunities for students to learn directly from an instructor who remains active in grappling competitions and super fights. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and visitors are welcome to drop in for open mat sessions. The approach at Martinez BJJ reflects Will’s own journey—grounded in strong fundamentals, shaped by real competition, and open to anyone ready to step onto the mats.
