Marcus Aurelio Jiu Jitsu Academy

Marcus Aurelio Jiu Jitsu Academy was founded in 2013 by Marcus "Maximus" Aurélio, a 6th-degree black belt and world champion whose BJJ journey began more than four decades ago in Brazil. Marcus trained under Master Francisco Sá, a direct student of Takeo Yano, placing the academy in a lineage that stretches from the Kodokan in Japan to the heart of North Miami Beach. Driven by a belief that Jiu-Jitsu is about self-mastery as much as technical skill, Marcus established the school to share authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the values of discipline, respect, and personal growth with students of all ages. Classes at the academy reflect both tradition and modern training needs. Young children start in the Little Champions program, focused on movement and focus for ages 3–5. Juniors are divided into age-appropriate groups, with gi and no-gi options available for kids as young as six. For families seeking flexible education, there’s even a dedicated homeschool BJJ class for children aged 5–11. Teens and adults can progress from a structured fundamentals program—designed for true beginners with no sparring pressure—into all-levels and intermediate/advanced gi classes, with no-gi and advanced no-gi sessions rounding out the weekly schedule. In addition to BJJ, students can cross-train in kickboxing, and private lessons are offered for those wanting focused attention. The school is wheelchair accessible and maintains a family-oriented atmosphere, with after-school programs and seasonal camps that keep kids active and engaged year-round.
