Mamute Jiu Jitsu

Mamute Jiu Jitsu in Orange, CA is led by Professor Bruno “Mamute” Paulista, a Brazilian black belt with a unique dual lineage through both the Gracie and Fadda families. Bruno’s journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began in Brasília, Brazil, and after earning his black belt in 2006, he moved to the United States, where he has been teaching since 2007. His competitive pedigree includes World and Pan American No-Gi titles at the ultra-heavyweight level, and he is one of only two Fadda-recognized black belts in the country. The academy’s story is marked by resilience, most notably when Bruno overcame a traumatic brain injury shortly after opening the school, returning to the mats and continuing to build the academy into a fixture in the local community. Training at Mamute centers on both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with a structured program for every age and stage. Adults can join all-levels gi and no-gi classes, while the youth program is divided into developmentally appropriate groups: Toddlers (ages 2–4), Mini Mamutes (ages 4–7), and Little Mamute (ages 8–13). There is also a Girls in Gis program to support women and girls in the sport. The curriculum is designed to instill discipline, confidence, and technical ability, drawing from Bruno’s broad experience as a competitor, coach, and mentor. Mamute’s schedule includes morning, midday, and evening options throughout the week, making it accessible for families and working adults alike. The academy welcomes students of all backgrounds, and drop-ins are encouraged for those interested in experiencing the training firsthand. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and the culture emphasizes perseverance, respect, and growth—values that reflect both Bruno’s personal journey and the academy’s roots in two of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s most influential lineages.
