Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy

Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy is led by Professor Ricardo Rosa, a black belt under Kron Gracie with a lineage tracing directly through Rickson Gracie. Ricardo began training in Brazil in 2001, transitioning from Taekwondo to Jiu-Jitsu in his hometown of Torres before relocating to Los Angeles in 2006. He spent 15 years training alongside Rickson and Kron Gracie, eventually serving as head instructor at Kron Gracie’s LA academy. When that school moved in 2020, Ricardo established his own academy in 2021 to continue teaching the style and philosophy he developed under the Gracie lineage. The academy focuses on the practical application of Jiu-Jitsu as a personal efficiency tool for self-protection, emphasizing leverage and technique over brute strength. Classes are structured to accommodate a range of skill levels, from beginners to advanced students, with instruction rooted in the traditional gi-based curriculum taught by Rickson and Kron. The program balances self-defense techniques with sport-oriented training, reflecting Ricardo’s competition experience at IBJJF and other major tournaments during his early career. Training at Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy includes regular open mat sessions for adults, allowing students to drill and spar in a less formal setting. The facility offers convenient parking and welcomes drop-in students. The instruction approach prioritizes clear, patient teaching with attention to detail, helping practitioners develop confidence and skill both on the mats and in everyday life.
