Kent Jiu Jitsu has been part of the Kent, Ohio martial arts scene since 2003, led by owner and head instructor Jack Edwards. Jack began his martial arts journey in Kuk Sool Won in 1994, earning his third-degree black belt and competing nationally before transitioning to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2014. He achieved his brown belt in BJJ in December 2024 and has dedicated over two decades to teaching and running the academy. The academy offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes structured by age and experience, with separate programs for kids, teens, and adults. Kids’ BJJ classes focus on practical self-defense and character development, while the teen program emphasizes fitness, confidence, and building positive habits. Adult classes blend fundamentals and advanced techniques for students with varying goals, from fitness to self-defense. In addition to traditional classes, Kent Jiu Jitsu runs a women’s-only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program and offers cardio kickboxing for those looking to add striking and conditioning to their training. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and parents are encouraged to watch their children train. Kent Jiu Jitsu’s teaching philosophy centers on realistic, practical martial arts skills and personal growth, welcoming students of any age or background. The academy’s long-standing presence in the region reflects its commitment to helping students develop discipline, respect, and resilience both on and off the mats.
