At Georgetown Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, formerly known as John’s Gym Georgetown, the curriculum is designed to meet students where they are—whether they walk in for fitness, self-defense, or competition. The academy organizes its programs by age and experience, offering kids’ classes starting at age four, structured youth and teen progression, and clear leveling for adult practitioners. For adults and teens, the schedule features Level 1 and Level 2 gi classes, all-level no-gi sessions, and advanced gi mastery classes, ensuring that beginners and experienced grapplers alike have a path to develop their skills. Youth programs include practical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu paired with a Resiliency Leadership Program, as well as a dedicated competition team and mastery tracks for motivated young athletes. The teaching team is led by black belts Mario “JJ” Martinez (owner and head instructor) and Jake Sutton, with support from coaches specializing in gi, no-gi, MMA, and youth fundamentals. Assistant coaches—including several who work exclusively with kids and teens—help maintain a structured and attentive learning environment. The gym’s long-standing presence in Georgetown since 2012 is reflected in its commitment to families and competitors alike, welcoming students from their very first class through years of training. Beyond Jiu-Jitsu, the academy offers adult MMA classes that blend striking and grappling, and supports open mat sessions for extra training and peer learning. Georgetown Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is also a proud We Defy affiliate, providing a pathway for combat veterans with service-connected disabilities to train at no cost. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and drop-ins are welcome throughout the week.
