Jiu Jitsu 101 Oregon Coast in Rockaway Beach is led by founder and chief instructor Ronin Randall Colburn, whose martial arts journey began in the early 1970s. With more than three decades of experience training and teaching, Colburn draws from a deep background in Karate-Jutsu, Japanese Jujutsu, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His BJJ lineage traces through JT Taylor and the Carlson Gracie tradition, with continued mentorship from Michael Downing and the Pedro Sauer lineage. After years leading martial arts programs in Portland and Vancouver, Colburn and his family established the academy’s Oregon Coast location in 2023, carrying forward a philosophy rooted in discipline, character development, and lifelong learning. The academy’s programs reflect its broad martial arts heritage and focus on strong fundamentals. Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu forms the core of adult training, with classes such as Adult Gi BJJ, Orientation Gi Adult Jiujitsu, and extended 2-hour rolling sessions. Students can also take part in KHJi Jiujitsu, which blends elements from the academy’s Karate and Jujutsu roots, as well as striking classes under the "K-Boxing" banner. For children, the schedule includes Kids KHJi Jiujitsu and an introductory Baby Judo class for ages 3–5, emphasizing early movement and basic martial arts skills. Jiu Jitsu 101 Oregon Coast operates with a practical, safety-first approach and welcomes visitors from all lineages for drop-in training. The academy is wheelchair accessible and runs on a philosophy that places community engagement, family involvement, and personal growth at the center of its mission. Every class is designed to help students build confidence, develop discipline, and pursue martial arts as a lifelong journey.
