Impact Jiu Jitsu Hood River is led by Ryan Brock, a black belt under Professor Michael Chapman. Ryan began his journey in 2012 in Lafayette, Louisiana, training under Tim Credeur and Josh Artigue. In 2020, determined not to let Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu disappear from the Gorge, he took ownership of the academy and committed to keeping the sport alive in Hood River. What started as a small group of dedicated practitioners has since grown into a thriving, family-oriented school with over 100 members, welcoming everyone from young kids to adult competitors. Classes at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hood River cover both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with a clear progression for students at every level. Adult programs include gi fundamentals, all-levels gi, no-gi fundamentals, and specialty classes like leg locks and 10 Round Tuesday. There is also a focus on takedown skills, with wrestling-based sessions offered weekly. Kids ages 8–13 can join both gi and no-gi youth Jiu-Jitsu classes, guided by experienced instructors like Molly Beard, who brings decades of teaching experience from outside and inside the gym. The academy also offers open mat sessions and welcomes drop-ins. The facility features 2,300 square feet of premium mat space on a foam-cushioned subfloor, along with strength equipment, an on-site sauna for recovery, and clean modern showers and changing rooms. Training is available throughout the week, including early morning and evening classes to accommodate different schedules. Whether a student is stepping onto the mats for the first time or preparing for competition, the team at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hood River aims to help each person build skill, confidence, and lasting connections through BJJ.
