Hyattsville Brazilian Jiu Jitsu | GF Team DC Hyattsville is led by Professor Deivid Dias, a Brazilian black belt with championship wins at the IBJJF Pan American, American Nationals, and AJP Grand Slam events. Professor Deivid began his journey in Brazil in the early 2000s and brings over a decade of coaching experience to the D.C. area. His leadership is shaped by both his competitive success and a drive to share the values of respect, discipline, and effort with every student who steps on the mats. The academy operates as part of the GFTeam lineage, recognized worldwide for its competition pedigree. Day-to-day training is supported by a team of accomplished black belt instructors, including Professor Charlene Dixon and Professor Marcio Carvalho, each known for their technical instruction and commitment to student growth. Classes are structured to serve everyone from young children to adults, with programs for kids’ gi, adult gi, and adult no-gi Jiu Jitsu. The schedule includes dedicated classes for beginners, mixed-level sessions, and competition-focused training, as well as women’s classes and options for both gi and no-gi formats. Opened in 2015, the school was founded to create a safe space for families and individuals to learn authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Hyattsville location welcomes drop-ins and offers wheelchair-accessible facilities. Beyond regular classes, the team invests in annual training trips to Brazil, providing students with the opportunity to deepen their skills at the source of the art. The academy’s approach blends high-level technical instruction with a family-owned ethos, aiming to develop confident, resilient students on and off the mats.
