85 S Bragg St, Ste 202, Alexandria, VA
High Noon BJJ & Fitness in Alexandria, VA is led by head instructor Tim Dawson, a 2nd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, accomplished judo competitor, and multi-time IBJJF champion. The coaching team includes six BJJ black belts and a nationally decorated judo staff, with Sensei Chris Round—three-time U.S. National Judo Champion—and Kids Program Director Maia Matalon, an ADCC East Coast Trials winner and IBJJF World medalist. The academy’s approach is shaped by these instructors’ deep experience in competition and their commitment to developing independent, adaptable grapplers. Training at High Noon is built around high-intensity, live practice. The school’s constraints-led method means students spend most of their time in supervised sparring and situational games, learning to solve problems against real resistance rather than repeating rote drills. Classes are organized by skill level and grappling phase—neutral (standing), guard, top control, back control, and submissions—so students always know what part of their game they’re working on. The catalog includes gi and no-gi BJJ, advanced submission grappling, judo for all ages, wrestling, and specialty sessions like “Grappling Skunkworks” and BJJ Laboratory. There’s also a structured BJJ-101 intro course for adults new to the sport, and a full youth program for ages 4–12 in both BJJ and judo. The academy welcomes drop-ins and visitors for a day pass, and every Saturday’s open mat is free to all, regardless of affiliation. The facility features two large mat spaces, sprung floors, showers, and plenty of parking. High Noon BJJ & Fitness is a place where hard training and friendly camaraderie go hand in hand, shaped by coaches who have spent years on the mat at the highest levels.
