Claim this gymAaron Dedrick leads Hamilton BJJ as owner and Head Coach; he started BJJ in 2006 and holds a black belt under Robson Moura. His background—competitive sports at McMaster, time as a police officer, running a strength and conditioning gym and work as a certified teacher with the Hamilton‑Wentworth District School Board—shapes daily instruction: classes emphasise structured technique work, progressive drilling and clear coaching cues aimed at retention and safety rather than just fast-paced scrambling. Hamilton BJJ operates inside the Croatian Sports and Community Centre at 166 Green Mountain Rd E in Stoney Creek and represents the Robson Moura Nations United Association. The schedule includes adult gi and no-gi classes plus a kids program with separate times for ages 5–9 and 10–14; posted evenings feature weekday gi and no-gi sessions and weekend drills and rolling. Coaches link the curriculum to belt-level progressions and use consistent drill-to-sparring transitions so students know what to practise between classes. Practical details are part of the academy’s rhythm: memberships and session times are posted on the gym website, and members often use the centre’s downstairs space for community time after class. Instructional priorities are framed around self-defence, fitness and discipline while keeping mat culture professional and inclusive—students train regardless of age, experience, political or religious belief.
