Grove City Brazilian BJJ Academy - GCBJJ was founded and is led by Dave Freetage, a third-degree black belt who has built the school into a cornerstone for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Grove City since earning his black belt in 2012. The academy’s foundation rests on a deep roster of experienced instructors, including Tim Davis (second-degree black belt), Brett Boggs, Michael Arrieta, and Wendy Kuhn, all of whom bring years of coaching and competition experience to the mats. The presence of multiple homegrown black belts, along with a dedicated team of brown and purple belt instructors, reflects GCBJJ’s long-term commitment to developing both skilled practitioners and teachers from within its own ranks. Classes at GCBJJ are structured to serve a broad range of students, from young kids to adult competitors. The weekly schedule includes gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with dedicated classes for kids, adults, and fundamentals. Young students can start in age-appropriate BJJ and no-gi classes, and there’s also a Muay Thai program for both kids and adults. For those interested in mixed martial arts, MMA and boxing rounds out the offerings. The academy places a strong emphasis on consistent training, with classes and open mats offered throughout the week, including morning, evening, and weekend sessions. A unique aspect of GCBJJ is the Legion Project, a Saturday program providing free training for first responders, active military, and veterans. This initiative, along with the academy’s policy of allowing both adults and kids to experience a month of regular classes before joining specialty sessions, speaks to the school’s roots in service and accessibility.
