Claim this gymGrizzly Training Academy is run by Jeffrey Ahmed, known as Coach Grizzly, a brown belt under Steve Matias and an active competitor in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Since opening the gym in October 2024, Grizzly has focused on blending striking and grappling skills, drawing on his background in boxing and BJJ to help students develop practical martial arts abilities. The gym also benefits from the experience of Coach Larry Pejak, a black belt in BJJ and brown belt in Luta Livre, who has been training for over nine years and competes regularly, and Makayla Clark-Robershaw, who leads the kids’ program with her combined expertise in Tang Soo Do and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Training at Grizzly covers both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults, with classes that include sparring sessions and open mat times where students can drill or roll freely. The gym offers a dedicated gi-based kids’ class called Little Grizzlies for ages 6 to 12, focusing on fundamentals and practical self-defense in a structured setting. On the striking side, boxing classes are available for adults, reflecting the owner’s background and the school’s broader combat sports approach. Grizzly Training Academy is affiliated with the Cohesion Association, led by Professor Steve Matias, a Marine Corps combat veteran and martial arts instructor with over 25 years of experience in judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Matias occasionally teaches at Grizzly, adding depth to the instruction. The gym welcomes drop-in students for most classes and maintains a schedule that balances structured teaching with open training opportunities.
