Gracie Technics BJJ Academy

Gracie Technics BJJ Academy operates two locations in the Portland metro area, with its Westside facility housed inside Choi’s Taekwondo Academy in Beaverton. The school’s instructors all earned their black belts under Professor Rylan Lizares, who is connected to Master Pedro Sauer’s lineage, and they bring nearly 35 years of combined experience training and competing across Oregon and beyond. The core leadership includes James Wohlmacher, Jonn Nishiguchi, Anthony Tran, and Josh Figueroa, each with a background of tournament competition and long-term teaching within the region. Training at Gracie Technics emphasizes fundamental Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques, with classes structured to serve both adults and children. The kids’ program accommodates various age groups, offering classes for young children starting at age four up through early teens, focusing on gi training that builds solid foundational skills. Adults can participate in fundamental gi classes, as well as group study sessions and combined boxing and Jiu-Jitsu classes, reflecting a willingness to integrate complementary martial arts elements. Open mat sessions and sparring opportunities are regularly scheduled at both Beaverton and Troutdale locations, providing active students with additional time to drill, roll, and refine their skills. The academy’s approach keeps the training environment focused on consistent skill development, with open mats reserved for current members to maintain a dedicated training atmosphere. The program’s steady weekday and weekend schedule supports ongoing training for all age groups within the framework of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu principles.
