The academy is led by Professor Seth Shamp, a 3rd degree black belt under Royce Gracie. Seth brings over two decades of experience on the mat, including ten years running Triangle Jiu Jitsu Academy in North Carolina and teaching in the Physical Education department at Duke University, where he was recognized as coach of the year in 2017. His Jiu-Jitsu journey began with Kyle Saunders and continued under Royce Gracie, culminating in a black belt awarded through rigorous testing overseen by dozens of black belts and Royce himself. Seth is registered with the IBJJF and holds SafeSport certification, and he remains active as both a competitor and traveling seminar instructor. Classes at Gracie Jiu Jitsu Vermont emphasize safety, clear instruction, and practical self-defense skills. Seth’s experience as a competitor and coach shapes the way he teaches both beginners and advanced students, blending traditional Gracie fundamentals with techniques proven in competition. Private lessons are available most days, and the school welcomes families, with Seth’s own children training alongside Vermont locals.
