Calliope Center, 14520 Memorial Dr SUITE #92, Houston, TX
Gracie Jiu Jitsu Houston is known for its structured, self-defense–focused Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs, led by Professor Jackson Fortunato—a Brazilian native and fourth-degree black belt. Professor Jackson grew up training under the Gracie family’s influence and continues to learn from Master Leão Teixeira, Rener Gracie, and Ryron Gracie. After building a successful teaching career in both Brazil and London, he moved to Houston in 2010 and started the academy with just a small mat space. Over the years, the school has grown into a well-established training center, welcoming more than 5,000 students from across the city. The academy offers the full Gracie Jiu-Jitsu curriculum, with classes tailored for beginners, advanced practitioners, kids, teens, and women. Programs include Gracie Combatives® for adults starting out, the Master Cycle® for advanced students, Gracie Bullyproof® for children and teens ages 4 to 16, and Women Empowered® for women’s self-defense. Each program follows a clear progression that prioritizes practical self-defense, technical development, and confidence-building over sport competition. Students work through a defined curriculum in a gi, guided by certified instructors who have been trained in the Gracie system. Classes are available for all age groups, and the academy emphasizes a safe, inclusive atmosphere where families often train together. The instructor team includes Teddy Arellano III, Nancy Boriski, Dennis Boriski, Oswaldo Davogustto, Dianne Torres, and Kenn Edgecombe, all supporting Professor Jackson’s vision. With wheelchair-accessible facilities and a long-standing presence in West Houston, the academy continues to focus on empowering students through traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
