Claim this gymGracie Barra Newcastle City has been part of the Newcastle CBD for over 15 years, led by 5th degree black belt Gustavo Machado Pinto. Gustavo began his Jiu-Jitsu journey in Rio in 1992, received his black belt in 2003, and has spent more than two decades developing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu locally and across the region. The academy follows Gracie Barra’s structured approach, rooted in the values of brotherhood, integrity and development, and every instructor is required to maintain up-to-date teaching, first aid, and child safety credentials. The training schedule runs six days a week, with classes tailored for all ages and stages. The core programs include GB1 Fundamentals for adults new to BJJ, advanced and expert classes for those progressing through the ranks, and regular gi and no-gi sessions. There are dedicated classes for kids and teens, with both gi and no-gi options, and a women’s self-defence program that focuses on practical techniques and building confidence. Adults can also take part in gi sparring and open mat sessions, with drop-ins welcome. The facility is set up for convenience, offering changing rooms, showers, and a waiting area for visitors. Classes run throughout the afternoon and evenings on weekdays, plus Saturday mornings, making it accessible for families and working professionals alike. Gracie Barra Newcastle City’s curriculum is designed to build not only technical skill but also the character and discipline that the sport demands.
