Gracie Barra Hayden Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense is run by Niki and Eli Brown, both brown belts who found their passion for BJJ through family involvement and training under Professor Garrett Glava. After years of living in the area and building connections within the jiu-jitsu community, they opened this school in 2022 to bring the Gracie Barra system to Hayden with an emphasis on respect, integrity, and personal growth. The academy follows the traditional Gracie Barra curriculum, rooted in gi training, with a focus on fundamentals and gradual progression through belt ranks. Students at Gracie Barra Hayden train in structured classes that include fundamental techniques for beginners as well as advanced drills and sparring sessions. The schedule offers gi and no-gi classes for adults and teens, along with specialized women’s self-defense courses. Children’s programs run multiple sessions that teach BJJ skills alongside discipline and anti-bullying lessons, aiming to build confidence and respect from a young age. The school also supports first responders and military personnel with tailored tactical training. The gym itself is equipped with Dollamur mats and an emphasis on cleanliness and safety, including regular disinfection and wheelchair accessibility. Open mat times and private lessons are available to support individual development. Niki and Eli maintain a close connection to their students, fostering a family atmosphere where long-term relationships grow alongside technical skill.
