Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Corpus Christi is led by Professor Leo Cantu, the city’s first Gracie Barra black belt and a practitioner since 1993. Leo’s journey began after watching Royce Gracie in the first UFC, inspiring him to train under Carley Gracie in San Francisco, spend time at Gracie Barra Belo Horizonte with Professor Draculino, and learn from world champion Alberto Crane. He brings decades of experience and a deep connection to the original Gracie Barra vision, emphasizing discipline, healthy living, and technical mastery on the mats. Classes at Gracie Barra Corpus Christi follow the structured, traditional Gracie Barra curriculum. Adults start with fundamentals, learning core techniques that build a strong base for both self-defense and sport. As students progress, they move into advanced classes that focus on transitions, speed, and reflex development. Gi training is the foundation, but no-gi classes for adults are also offered, giving students a chance to expand their skills. Competition training is available for those looking to test themselves in tournaments. Kids’ programs are available for ages 4 to 13, with Little Champs for the youngest students and a separate class for older children. These classes blend practical jiu-jitsu with lessons in focus, discipline, and respect, which often carry over into life outside the academy.
