Gold Country Jiu Jitsu

Gold Country Jiu Jitsu is led by Michael Quaintance, known as "Q" in the Sacramento area martial arts scene. Q earned his black belt in 2012 under Cassio Werneck, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world champion, after 15 years of dedicated training. His background includes multiple tournament wins such as the US Opens and the Worlds, as well as professional MMA fights in organizations like IFC, Gladiator Challenge, and King of the Cage. Outside of competition, Q has applied his skills working as a bouncer in high-intensity environments, emphasizing respect, control, and safety. The academy offers a range of classes spanning youth and adult programs. Kids begin with gi classes from ages 6 to 18, divided into appropriate age groups, while no-gi instruction is available for younger children and adults. Adults can train in fundamentals, beginner, and regular gi classes, alongside no-gi sessions. Open mat times provide additional training opportunities for all adult students. The emphasis on technique, leverage, and timing reflects Q’s philosophy that BJJ is accessible and effective for people of all sizes and backgrounds. Located in Auburn, California, Gold Country Jiu Jitsu serves the surrounding foothill communities, including Grass Valley and Nevada City. The facility is wheelchair accessible, supporting a broad range of practitioners. The instruction focuses on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a practical self-defense system and a martial art respected by MMA fighters and law enforcement alike.
