Gael Force Jiu Jitsu in Roxbury Township is led by head instructor Alex Kennedy, a second degree black belt under Jamie Cruz, who is a 4th degree Renzo Gracie black belt. Alex brings over a decade of experience as a public school teacher to his coaching, shaping the academy’s teaching methods with a structured and individualized approach. Drawing on his background in education, Alex has developed a detailed curriculum for beginners and all-levels classes, ensuring that fundamentals are taught in a clear, accessible way. The instructor team includes accomplished practitioners and teachers such as Mike Tichy, Adam DelGuercio, Antonio Latorre, Adam Reily, Anthony Ficacci, Jing Chen, Nate Galante, and judo coach Kevin Heitzman—each contributing their own expertise, from law enforcement and competition to judo and self-defense. The school offers a range of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs for adults and children, including gi and no-gi classes, women’s only BJJ, intermediate jiu-jitsu, and open mat sessions. There is a values-based kids program developed by Alex, and kickboxing is also available for both adults and children. Judo instruction, led by a lifelong competitor and coach, focuses on takedown systems that translate directly to BJJ. Law enforcement officers will find specialized classes, and the academy welcomes students from both Morris and Warren counties. Gael Force operates out of a modern, 3,000-square-foot facility featuring private changing rooms, a large viewing window for parents, and amenities like free WiFi. Cleanliness is emphasized, with zebra mats disinfected after every class and steam sanitized weekly. Drop-ins are welcome for most classes, and private instruction is available from several instructors. The academy’s approach combines technical precision, individualized progress, and a focus on both self-defense and sport jiu-jitsu, reflecting the diverse backgrounds and expertise of its teaching staff.
