Francis Jiu Jitsu in Leeming was founded by Daan Francis, a BJJ black belt with over a decade of teaching experience. The academy was built around the belief that everyone deserves a place to train and grow—regardless of age, background or experience. Daan’s approach focuses on respect, continuous learning and inclusivity, with a strong sense of community at the core. The school is known for bringing together first-timers, seasoned competitors, parents and kids on the same mats, with an emphasis on progress and mutual support rather than ego. Training at Francis Jiu Jitsu covers both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for all levels, with structured classes designed to develop solid fundamentals and advanced skills alike. There is a dedicated kids’ program for ages 3 to 15, led by coach Stephen Hsu, which uses games-based learning to build confidence and discipline. The women’s team, headed by experienced competitor Laura Smith, offers a female-focused space with practical self-defence woven into every session. Beyond BJJ, the academy also runs judo, wrestling and boxing classes, catering to students interested in takedowns, striking and overall grappling proficiency. Classes are held Monday to Friday from late afternoon into the evening, and Saturday mornings, making it accessible for families and working adults. Private 1:1 training is available by appointment for those seeking personalised coaching, whether for competition preparation or targeted skill development. The academy has a strong presence at local competitions across Perth and WA, but participation is always optional—growth and learning remain the priority.
