Foster Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Kent, WA, is led by Professor James Foster, a certified 5th degree black belt and three-time Master World Champion. Since opening its doors in 2003, the academy has grown from a small program inside a local karate school to a 3,000-square-foot, fully equipped facility serving the greater Seattle area. Foster’s experience and leadership are supported by a team of assistant black belt instructors, emphasizing technical progression and practical skill at every stage. Classes at Foster BJJ run seven days a week, with options in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings to accommodate different schedules. The adult program includes both traditional gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling (no-gi), offering instruction and drilling for all levels. Kids’ classes are designed to develop confidence, discipline, and coordination, focusing on foundational technique in a family-oriented setting. The academy also runs BJJ 101 classes to help new students build a strong technical base from the start. The facility itself features a large matted training area, heavy bag rack, corner cage, padded walls, and modern climate control. Open mat sessions are available, and visiting practitioners are welcome to schedule a drop-in. With a mission to help students realize their potential both on and off the mats, Foster BJJ combines deep experience, a strong technical foundation, and a practical approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for the Kent community.
