Evergreen Karate & Jiu Jitsu in Bothell is led by a team with deep roots in both traditional and modern martial arts. Founder George Ahearn, a 3rd degree black belt, brings over two decades of experience and a strong commitment to service, both on and off the mats. The adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is headed by Bryan Alvarez, a 3rd degree black belt under Master Pedro Sauer, whose lineage goes directly to Helio and Rickson Gracie. Matthew Hill, another 3rd degree black belt, adds a focus on pedagogy and fundamentals, while “Hawaiian” Chris Simpliciano, a black belt under Alvarez and Hill, brings a relaxed, technical teaching style. The karate program is directed by Brent Yamamoto, a 5th degree black belt with credentials across karate, aikido, and tactical disciplines, supported by instructors Jeff Morgenroth and Scott Bush. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Evergreen is taught in the gi and structured for all ages, with adult and teen classes as well as youth programs. The Little Dragons class introduces children as young as four to Jiu-Jitsu, while older kids join the Youth Jiu Jitsu program. Beau Richards, a brown belt, leads the kids’ BJJ classes, focusing on confidence, discipline, and personal growth. Open mat sessions are available for adults, giving students extra time to train and connect outside of structured classes. Karate and aikido are also core parts of the academy, with programs for kids, teens, and adults at various belt levels. Classes emphasize strong fundamentals, practical self-defense, and steady progression. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and families are encouraged to train together. With a schedule that includes early evening and Saturday morning classes, Evergreen Karate & Jiu Jitsu is set up for busy families and working adults alike.
