Essence BJJ Walnut Creek is led by Professor Vini Nunes, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with deep roots in the art. Vini’s journey began in Rio de Janeiro and continued through the renowned Constrictor Team under Master Ataíde Junior, with a lineage tracing back to Mitsuyo Maeda, Carlos and Helio Gracie, and Armando Wridt. A decorated competitor in both Brazil and the United States—including medal honors at No-Gi Worlds—Vini brings a passion for teaching and a commitment to preserving the original values of Jiu-Jitsu as a lifelong pursuit. The academy offers a structured curriculum for both adults and children, with programs in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. Classes are designed to be accessible for all ages and experience levels, from kids’ basics to adult unlimited training. The teaching philosophy draws on the 7-5-3 code inspired by the samurai Bushido, emphasizing personal growth, respect, and discipline alongside technical skill. Seasonal youth camps mix martial arts with games and self-defense, welcoming both members and non-members and highlighting the school’s family-oriented approach.
