Elks Jiu Jitsu Club

Elks Jiu Jitsu Club is a nonprofit Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organization based in Oak Grove, Oregon, operating out of the Milwaukie Elks Lodge #142. Founded in 2021, the club focuses on community, fellowship, and technical development under the guidance of Professor Marcello “Salazar” Bergo. The coaching staff includes several dedicated volunteers who have earned their black and brown belts through years of training with Salazar and other senior instructors. This group emphasizes a safe and inclusive environment where members can pursue their BJJ goals while also training at other gyms. Training at Elks Jiu Jitsu revolves primarily around gi classes offered four times a week, with sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as early mornings on Wednesday and Friday. An open mat on Saturday mornings provides additional time for members to drill, roll, and refine their skills at their own pace. The club does not offer programs for minors, focusing exclusively on adult practitioners. Membership requires joining the Elks Lodge and paying the associated annual fee, but the club itself does not charge additional tuition. Beyond the mats, Elks Jiu Jitsu Club is deeply involved in service and community projects. In 2025, members led a major renovation of the Elks Lodge locker rooms, contributing both labor and expertise valued at around $30,000. The club also participates annually in charitable efforts, including supporting local children’s programs through fundraising and volunteer work. These activities reflect the club’s broader commitment to integrity and mutual support among its members.
