Electric Jiu Jitsu in Huntington Beach was founded by Professor Joao Assis, a 6-time World Champion and ADCC Champion with over 25 years of experience teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His lineage traces directly from Carlos and Helio Gracie through Rolls Gracie, Romero Cavalcante, and Leonardo Vieira, reflecting a deep commitment to both the roots and evolution of the art. Assis built this academy to share the practical and tactical side of Jiu-Jitsu, focusing on movement, timing, and decision-making, and to introduce the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle to newcomers in the local area. The academy offers structured programs for kids, youth, and adults, with daily gi classes that progress from fundamentals to advanced levels. Young students can start as early as age 5 in the Kids BJJ program, while adults have access to fundamentals, all-levels, and advanced classes. Electric Jiu Jitsu also integrates self-defense concepts alongside sport training, emphasizing technique repetition and real-world application. Private lessons are available for students looking for focused instruction, and open mat sessions encourage additional practice and skill sharing. Both gi and no-gi training are part of the curriculum, with an approach that treats them as integrated aspects of grappling rather than separate disciplines. Women’s self-defense is a featured program, reflecting the school’s broader goal of providing practical skills and confidence to all students.
