East Coast United Queens Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

East Coast United Queens Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu operates out of Whitestone, NY, under the guidance of Professor Rob Gutierrez and Coach Vianca Jager-Gutierrez. Vianca began her BJJ journey as a high school freshman and trained extensively under Rob and Sean Alvarez at Ground Control before continuing with Rob in Queens. She earned her black belt in 2015 and has a competition record that includes multiple IBJJF and Grapplers Quest medals, reflecting a deep commitment to both gi and no-gi competition at the regional and national levels. Training at the academy covers a broad spectrum of grappling arts, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, submission wrestling, and judo, with classes structured for different ages and skill levels. Adults can attend gi classes led by Professor Rob, no-gi sessions, and mixed gi/no-gi classes under Professor Kevin. The schedule also includes drill and sparring sessions, as well as open mat times for all levels, allowing practitioners to refine their techniques and prepare for competition. Youth programs run both gi and no-gi classes designed for kids, with additional offerings like the Little Warriors and Junior Warriors programs to build foundational skills early. Women’s classes are part of the weekly lineup, supporting a range of participants. The academy’s approach emphasizes consistent training in fundamentals alongside competitive preparation, reflecting the experience of its instructors and their history in the sport. Drop-ins are welcomed, making it accessible for visitors and newcomers to the sport.
