E17 BJJ, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Walthamstow began in early 2025 with just two weekly classes in a local church hall, and has since grown into a full-time academy deeply rooted in the Walthamstow community. The club was founded on the belief that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can transform lives, and its team of passionate coaches reflects that ethos. The lead instructors include Mouncif Afif (brown belt, active competitor), Christopher Macken (black belt, no-gi specialist and Polaris veteran), Hugo Dvorecky (brown belt) and Ryan Nee, each bringing their own experience from the UK and European grappling scene. Their approach blends strong fundamentals with concept-based teaching, aiming to give students not just technical skill, but a real understanding of the art. The academy offers a broad timetable, with 19 weekly classes covering gi and no-gi BJJ, wrestling for no-gi, Muay Thai, and a structured youth programme for kids and teens. Adults can join fundamentals classes in both gi and no-gi, as well as all-levels sessions and open mat times. Those interested in striking can take part in Muay Thai sessions, led by a professional coach with multiple IKBF State titles, and there is dedicated wrestling instruction to strengthen stand-up and scramble skills. For younger members, E17 Hero HQ and E17 Combat HQ provide age-appropriate BJJ and striking classes, welcoming children and teens from 5 to 15 years old. The club’s coaching team is active on the competition circuit, and values progression both on and off the mats. Classes are structured to support complete beginners as well as experienced grapplers, with a focus on building confidence, practical technique, and a positive atmosphere. Drop-ins are welcome across most classes, making it easy for visitors and locals to join the training. The academy remains committed to its founding mission: helping people in London develop lifelong skills, fitness and confidence through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts.
