Dayton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded within TAMA Martial Arts by world champion Manuel Taningco, who set out to build a school where proven Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu could be passed down alongside strong values and a focus on personal growth. Over the years, the academy has brought together a team of seasoned black belt instructors with competition experience, all dedicated to guiding students of every age and background on and off the mats. The school’s roots in Dayton, Ohio, reflect a long-standing commitment to martial arts excellence and a belief that growth in Jiu-Jitsu shapes character as much as it develops skill. Classes at Dayton BJJ are structured to meet students at every stage, with dedicated programs for adults, teens, kids, and women. The kids’ curriculum welcomes children from age six and up, focusing on discipline, respect, and practical self-defense in a positive, structured setting. Adult and teen classes balance technical progression and fitness, while women’s Jiu-Jitsu offers a space for skill-building and self-defense with an emphasis on leverage and technique. The academy also offers no-gi grappling and wrestling sessions, giving students additional tools for takedowns, ground control, and competition preparation. Dayton BJJ’s facility features spacious, safety-focused mat space and is wheelchair accessible. Every class incorporates proper warm-ups and injury prevention, with instructors emphasizing perseverance, integrity, and accountability. The school’s team-based approach to competition encourages students to represent Dayton with pride and unity, reflecting the academy’s belief in collective growth and long-term development through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
