Daniel Tavares Brazilian BJJ Academy in Clementon, NJ is built around the belief that mastering the basics is the foundation of true skill in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Daniel Tavares, a fifth-degree black belt and two-time World Champion, brings over 20 years of teaching and competition experience to the mats. He started his journey in Fortaleza, Brazil under Master Francisco Sá (SAS Team), and since opening his own academy in 2014, Daniel has focused on combining traditional and modern techniques while maintaining a strong emphasis on respect, discipline, and camaraderie. Classes at the academy are structured for all ages and experience levels, with a clear path for progression. Beginners are encouraged to start in fundamentals classes, where the focus is on precise technique, timing, and control—skills that Daniel and his team insist remain relevant at every belt level. Adults can train in both gi and no-gi formats throughout the week, with sessions that include dynamic warm-ups, takedowns, drilling, and live rolling. For those interested in extra practice, open mat sessions are open to members and non-members alike. The kids’ program is divided into age groups, offering gi and no-gi classes for children as young as three. These classes go beyond technique, aiming to build confidence, focus, and self-discipline, while keeping training fun and engaging. Private lessons are also available for students who want personalized attention or have unique scheduling needs. Daniel Tavares BJJ Academy has grown into a family-run school where the goal is to develop champions on and off the mat, guided by a team of experienced instructors and a deep-rooted Brazilian lineage.
