Crimson Guard Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is guided by Matt Giancarlo, a first-degree black belt with a deep background in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts competition. Matt’s journey began in wrestling at Marist High School before transitioning to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2006. He has trained under respected coaches like Marc Laimon and has competed extensively, including a successful MMA career. His experience shapes the academy’s focus on fundamentals in submissions, positioning, and strategy, aimed at building a solid, practical understanding of BJJ. Classes at Crimson Guard cover a wide range of interests and ages, from kids as young as five to adult practitioners. The curriculum emphasizes a step-by-step progression starting with fundamentals and moving into advanced techniques. The academy requires a gi for most classes, with specific gear guidelines for gi and no-gi training. Alongside Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, students can also train wrestling, no-gi submission grappling, Muay Thai, boxing, and MMA, taught by instructors who bring their own competitive and coaching backgrounds to the mat. The academy also offers women’s classes and open mat sessions where students can drill and spar freely. Crimson Guard’s schedule includes weekday evenings, weekend mornings, and midday classes, accommodating various training needs. The facility is wheelchair accessible, reflecting attention to practical details that support consistent training. This combination of experienced leadership and diverse programming creates a place where skill development and physical fitness go hand in hand.
