Cornerstone Jiu Jitsu Academy & Boxing Club

Cornerstone Jiu Jitsu Academy & Boxing Club has been a part of Leander’s martial arts scene longer than any other BJJ school in the area. Led by owner and head instructor Miguel Rodriguez, whose background includes a successful high school varsity wrestling career, the academy is rooted in both technical instruction and a practical approach to grappling. Miguel is joined by a group of experienced upper belts who assist in teaching, giving students a chance to learn from a range of skilled practitioners. The academy offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for both adults and children, with the kids’ program enrolling students as young as age five. Classes focus on building fundamental skills, discipline, and fitness through a structured approach in the gi. For adults, there are regular gi classes, open mat sessions, and open gym times, allowing for both instruction and independent training. Drop-ins are welcome during open mats and classes, and new students can borrow a loaner gi if needed—no need to remove patches from previous schools. Cornerstone is also home to a boxing club for adults 16 and older, emphasizing real boxing fundamentals rather than cardio-based routines. Instruction covers proper form, footwork, and movement, led by coaches with national-level competition experience. The academy operates as a local, veteran-owned business, with a family-friendly atmosphere and support for law enforcement and active-duty military. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and there are no contracts or registration fees—just straightforward monthly training on the mats.
