Coringa BJJ Butler is part of a well-established Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu network in Western Australia, led by Fabio “Coringa” Nunes, a sixth degree black belt who began his journey in Rio de Janeiro. Fabio’s lineage includes instruction under Ralph Gracie, Royler Gracie, Saulo Ribeiro, and Arthur Cartiart, with significant time at Gama Filho University—home to the renowned GFTeam. After helping establish GFTeam’s first international branch in Boston, Fabio moved to Perth in 2009 and has since played a central role in building one of the largest BJJ teams in the country, coaching national and international champions and serving as a key organiser for major competitions in the state. The academy’s teaching philosophy is rooted in respect, loyalty, discipline, and honour, with a strong belief that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a lifestyle accessible at any stage of life. Classes at Coringa BJJ Butler cater for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners. The curriculum covers both gi and no-gi grappling, and places emphasis on technical progression, physical development, and self-defence skills. Kids’ programs are a core offering, introducing young students to BJJ fundamentals and the values of the sport, while more experienced members can join the competition team for specialised training. Coringa BJJ Butler operates in a manner that encourages family involvement and personal growth, with programs structured to support students aiming for fitness, confidence, and competitive achievement. Kickboxing is also available, broadening the academy’s martial arts offering beyond BJJ. The school maintains connections with its wider network, providing opportunities for cross-training and participation in events across multiple locations throughout Western Australia.
