Jason’s journey began under Carlos Machado Black Belt Klay Pittman during his college years at Texas Tech University. He later trained with Gracie Barra Black Belt Gustavo “Guga” Machado in Virginia Beach, where he had the chance to learn from top instructors like Tinguinha and Gordinho. Since 2011, Claunch has studied under Professor Mario Queiroga, Co-Founder of Brasa Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, linking the academy to the Roberto Traven lineage. The academy offers a mix of traditional gi and no-gi classes throughout the week, with sessions tailored for adults. Gi classes run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings, while no-gi training is available Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Open mat sessions take place Saturday mornings, providing students space to drill and roll freely. The schedule reflects a balance between gi fundamentals and no-gi techniques, supporting steady progression for practitioners at various levels. Alongside Professor Claunch, the instructional team includes several black belts such as Griff Dabadie, Branden James, Lyle Garza, Clint Randolph, and Matias Garza, each bringing experience in both BJJ and related grappling arts like judo. The academy has trained a wide range of students, from law enforcement and military personnel to MMA fighters and working professionals. This depth of teaching experience shapes a practical approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu rooted in real-world application and consistent skill development.
