Claim this gymCia Paulista Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is led by Freddy, a 5th degree black belt with over 30 years of experience in martial arts. Freddy’s journey began in judo at age seven in Brazil, and he transitioned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at fifteen under Master Maximiano Trombini, one of the founders of Companhia Paulista Jiu-Jitsu. After earning his black belt in 2001, Freddy taught in São Paulo before moving to California in 2004. He opened the Monrovia academy in 2010, carrying forward the same name that marks his roots and training lineage. The academy offers structured classes for adults and kids, with a focus on fundamentals for beginners and technical refinement for intermediate and advanced students. Gi training is the core of the curriculum, with separate classes for beginners, all-levels, and advanced practitioners. No-Gi sessions are also available for those looking to expand their skills. Kids aged 8 to 14 train in age-appropriate groups, emphasizing discipline and physical fitness alongside technique. Open mat sessions provide extra time for students to drill and spar with peers. Located on South Myrtle Avenue, the school maintains a straightforward schedule from Monday through Saturday and welcomes drop-in students. The facility is wheelchair accessible, supporting a range of practitioners. Private lessons are offered for personalized coaching, helping students focus on their individual goals. Through decades of experience and a clear lineage, Cia Paulista continues to build skill and character in the Monrovia area.
