Checkmat Riverview Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Adults and Kids Martial Arts serves the Gibsonton area under the leadership of Professor Maurício Carra, a world champion with deep roots in the Checkmat lineage. The academy has been sharing its passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2000, blending traditional instruction with a focus on character, discipline, and personal growth for all ages. The class structure at Checkmat Riverview is organized by both age and experience. Kids start as young as four, with separate classes for ages 4–7 and 8–13, and progress from fundamentals to advanced techniques in both gi and no-gi formats. Teens (14–17) and adults (18+) have dedicated sessions, including beginners and all-levels classes, as well as competition team training for those pursuing a more competitive path. Private instruction is available for students wanting personalized coaching or extra attention in their training. Day-to-day, the schedule offers early morning, afternoon, and evening classes to accommodate busy families and working adults. The facility features high-level mats, changing areas, and a resting space, with a straightforward drop-in policy and no contract required for enrollment.
