Checkmat Anaheim / Neezam Jiu Jitsu School is led by Professor Saeed Dunkaev, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Leo Vieira, founder of the Checkmat team. Dunkaev’s journey reflects both high-level competition and deep roots in the art: he was ranked #1 brown belt in both gi and no-gi across all IBJJF divisions and is a multiple-time IBJJF World and Pan American champion. His belt lineage traces directly from Mitsuyo Maeda through Carlos and Helio Gracie, to Rolls Gracie, Romero Cavalcanti, and Leo Vieira, offering students in Anaheim a direct link to one of the most influential modern BJJ teams. The academy offers structured classes for adults, teens, and children, with gi and no-gi options available throughout the week. Kids’ programs are divided by age and include both gi and no-gi jiu-jitsu, as well as wrestling for older children. Adults and teens can train in traditional gi classes, no-gi sessions, and kickboxing, with open mat times for extra practice. Private training is also available for students seeking focused instruction. The curriculum emphasizes self-defense, discipline, and self-confidence, reflecting Dunkaev’s belief in BJJ as a tool for personal growth as well as physical development. Located on North Brookhurst Street, the gym is wheelchair accessible and welcomes both beginners and experienced practitioners.
